Stature Surgery

Surgical correction of short stature, with or without axis alteration (Stature Surgery)

In certain healthy patients, their short stature can become a psychological difficulty, compromising their health (height dysphoria). Sometimes, this is due to a relative shortening of the femurs or tibias, with or without an axis alteration.
This situation, once impossible to resolve, can now be improved through bilateral surgical bone growth. At our specialized center (Bone Growth), we can advise you on the feasibility and risks of these bone-lengthening techniques, which have been practiced for several years.

Requirements for these techniques:

Patients must have acceptable bone, psychological, and general health. They must be highly motivated and able to face the time and financial costs required. Part of the costs may be covered by health insurance, but the patient must bear much of the cost. We do not set specific initial height requirements, as we evaluate each case individually.

How many centimeters can a bone grow?

The recommended total lengthening is between 5 to 8 cm in the thigh bone (femur).
Lengthening the femur beyond this is associated with higher complication rates, and our doctors prioritize patient safety. If desired, a separate procedure can be performed on the tibias to gain an additional 5 to 8 cm of height.

Why choose Bone Growth for stature surgery?

Limb lengthening should always be performed by surgeons experienced in these techniques. Bone Growth is a specialized center where we prioritize patient safety. Our doctors have over 30 years of experience. Each doctor will take the time to ensure you understand all your options and will customize your treatment to meet your specific needs. We help patients achieve the best possible outcome.

Cases are discussed in medical boards, which may include foreign doctors (USA, Spain, Brazil, etc.).
